It has been years since I originally setup my DNS-323 NAS and the volume_1 and volume_2 label has always been transparent to me. With a recent format, it became incredibly frustrating that every result on Google claims that the share volume name can not be changed.
Although true, here is a work around:
- Create a folder on the volume and name it accordingly.
- In the admin under Advanced -> Network Access, add a new setting for all users with full permissions to that folder.
- Delete volume_1 from the access list.
It may not be renaming the volume but volume_1 is now hidden.

So will doing this change mess up anything I have in my 323? I only have one volume (2 drives in raid 1 config) and don't want to lose my data.
