For a bit of background on the tool, watch this video on what is happening and how it works.
The video looks amazing in theory but does it actually work? I found out this week that the plugin is now available for the Gimp so I had to install and try it on one of my own photos.
- What happens when I take a photo, maintain the same height but resize the width from 750 to 470? The Results (110kb)
- Can it handle even more compression with a resize from 750 to 350? The Results (102kb)
- Pretty impressive so far but is it any better then just a regular image scale with proportions turned off? The Results (74kb)
- What about making a photo larger? Same test but resizing the photo from 750px to 1300px. The Results (250kb)
Results are good and a good reason to keep the Gimp installed until a free plugin is available for Photoshop.
