Professional piracy is a serious problem for the software industry and costs Adobe an estimated US$700 million per year.
Is this really accurate? Sure Photoshop is a very popular pirated application but is it costing Adobe anything besides the cost to fight piracy? They may not be making another 700 million but I don't think they are losing it.
If all those pirated users in the world couldn't use Photoshop unless they paid for it, I personally think they just wouldn't use it or upgrade. This may not be the case for everyone but open source and freeware is becoming big enough that there are reasonable alternatives.
