The next Firebird release happened today under a new name of Firefox. Reasons behind the name change.
For me, this release was a bit more anticipated than any of the previous versions. Not only because I found a spell checker for Firefox but because I witnessed the development and implementation of the new branding concepts and logo design over the past 2 months. I didn't get involved too much but as explained by Jon Hicks, my sketch of an idea we had here at the office was what eventually became the amazing new logo for Firefox 0.8. The newly assembled design team was organized by Steven Garrity after his slashdot experience on a fine Mozilla Branding article.

Be sure to check out mozilla.org for the changes, however they seem to be still experiencing the vast amount of interest slowing down the server enough to make it unusable at the time of this post.

Congratulations Steve. This is quite an accomplishment for you and your co-workers. To come up with such a professional look for Firefox. You are truly on top of the world today. Congrats to you, Daniel, Steve and the rest of the Firefox branding crew.
The final product is world-class. Both the software and the new design is super-fantastic.

And a very classy looking logo it is. Well done.

It's a nice logo, and it's all very nicely done, this new name and logo, but... you're linking to the wrong site there, with the new logo: www.mozzila.org != correct, it's www.mozilla.org :)
Just a heads up :)

Thanks, link from the logo is fixed. All other links seem to be fine.

You are being modest Stephen, your sketch drawing was wonderful, and it must be pretty neat to see your sketch become a beautiful colorized logo. I look forward to seeing more of your artwork in the future.

Hey Stephen!
Haven't been watching the blogs in a while, and just saw this. Congrats!! I installed firefox on my home and work PC's the day it was released and my first impressions was that the logo kicked ass ... it's even more cool now that I know the guy who made it :) Great job.
