..is not going to happen this year.
Up until the last few days of the regular season, it looked as if all Canadian NHL teams would make the playoffs. Not only that, it was setup that each Canadian team would be playing an American team making it possible to see them all advance as well.
So here it is on the last day of the season and everything goes out the window. The standings were so close that everything got turned upside down.
- Edmonton lost Saturday night and missed the playoffs by 1 point.
- Toronto and Ottawa will face off in the first round in the East.
- Calgary and Vancouver will face off in the first round in the West.
Although this now guarantees at least 2 Canadian teams to advance, it also guarantees the opposite.
I believe the last time all Canadian teams were in the playoffs was 1986 and the last time there were at least 6 was when the Canadiens won the cup in '93
