the NHL seems to be going the way of everything else... getting big and tacky for the extra money. The jersey's have been slowly changing the last few years. With new logos and jersey redesigns. They're all beginning to look a little to modern for me. Ottawa and Vancouver come to mind. What happened to keeping things classic? Nice classic clean lines, home jersey' are white, away are coloured? It's a bit too flashy.

Remember that for the first several decades of the NHL's existance - until the Seventies - the home team wore the dark jerseys and the road team the whites. It must be nice to be so young that you can't remember that :-)

That is true - I watched more NHL from 0 - 10 years old (1963 to 1973) than since and I have never really gotten used to white as home. Good to see the universe as it should be.

So I guess bringing back this "old" style goes along side bringing back all the vintage "old" uniforms as team alternatives.

ok, colour me wrong... I don't remember those days, no. But I still don't like those new designs.

I've been wondering what was going on this year with the dark jerseys at home Couldn't find any information on this on NHL's website, and I've not heard the commentators on TV say anything about it, so I finally googled around and found this posting. Thank you for enlightening me!

I agree with the original post-er of the "White Jerseys = Home Team?" - I would prefer the white jerseys at home. He gives a very good reason, too: if he had season tickets to the Canadiens, every game would be red v. white. That's pretty boring visually. I always thought one of the exciting things about home games was seeing the visiting team in their colors, and each game it was different. Now all visitors look the same.

You don't need flashy uniforms on your *own* team to get local fans out to games. People are already loyal - I don't think they need that. But seeing the flashy uniforms of the visiting team is a good thing - it gets you fired up to beat them!

I've also recently heard on the Score that this was done to try and sell more merchandise.
