War on Iraq - The Publics Reaction
After originally writing down ideas for this post Wednesday night, I have been debating about actually posting it due to highly opinionated comments and the negative reaction I may get. World conflicts and personal opinions is not really what I want this site to be about but here goes.
I am tired of hearing how everybody thinks that the American Government is in the wrong when the only facts we know is that of what the reporters tell us. For all we know there could be classified information that would change all our minds.
I for one am not 100% against this invasion but I am against and annoyed with the idea of protesting which many of the protests have been violent protests against war. Is that not contradicting their reason for being there?
CNN: "Tens of thousands of protesters in Cairo, Egypt, pelted police with rocks and vowed to burn down the U.S. Embassy and kick out the ambassador."
I'd love to know how many are truly there because they know the facts and disagree or are they there just because they don't like the word/thought of War or somebody told them to be there. How many of the people that show up are actually only there because a friend of a friend showed up so they might as well go too?
Protesting just because you can in not a reason.
The comments from interviewed protesters did not convince me they were there for any other reasons. I can't help but feel that we are witnessing a copycat effect where city after city is just joining the bandwagon.
The word "experienced protesters" caught my attention in a recent report and the fact that once the camera comes around, smiles appear as if this was a party while chanting.
CBC interviewed an Iraqi family living in Canada to see what they thought about all this. They had nothing but bad things to say about the war on their home country and implied that Bush was a mad insane man for doing such a thing. However we then found out they moved to Canada for a better life and away from a life of fear.
On one side we have those that are dead against the idea for what ever reasons but we also have just as many voting yes for an attack on Saddam Hussein. In cities outside of Baghdad many locals are preparing to party and dance in the street once Hussein is removed.
This is not about starting a War, it's the knowing that Saddam will start one in the future if we let him grow. His only intentions are his own and the power he can gain through the destruction of others. Saddam kills to eliminate people that don't agree with him and a person in Saddam shoes should be somebody to look up to and not feared.
War may be the wrong thing at this time, but waiting may also be devastating in the long run.
I am not ashamed of our Country or the actions from our neighbors. I am however ashamed of how the public has reacted during this critical and dangerous time in the World. I am ashamed to see Canadians booing the US National Anthem at sporting events and I am ashamed to see Canadians burning the flags of countries in battles over seas.
My own opinion at this moment is supporting the decisions of the American Government. They know more then me and have better technologies and facts to make a more intelligent decision then me. I have wanted Saddam taken out of power since the Gulf War and a recent biography on CNN has only increased this desire. His life has showed nothing but evil intentions and it will continue to be this way.
I honestly believe that people jump to conclusions way to fast and start voicing their hate based on other conflicts or beliefs. Bush was voted in by the American people to do a job. We need to let him do this job and have confidence that he is doing the right thing.
CBS made an interesting point that although we are at War with Iraq, Historians would not classify this as a War with the way Iraq has retaliated so far but yet more of an aggressive invasion to remove a feared dictator.
May this mission to disarm Saddam Hussein be a success with the hopes of building a better life style for Iraq and a safer world to live in, in years to come.
